Part of the fun of whiskey tasting is challenging your senses by conducting "blind" tasting--that is, not knowing what whiskey you're drinking. Therefore, below you have two ways to see what whiskey is include in your set: you can see a complete alphabetical list, or you can look one bottle at a time. Simply click the down arrow to expand whichever category you'd like to see. The list of whiskeys by bottle number provides an expanded description of each.
This year we offered two different sets, which we've named "Republic" and "Frontier." You'll find the name of your set on the box cover and on each bottle.

Other: Add a dash of water to release all the aromas and bring the whiskey to an ideal drinking strength. Batches #65 and #67.

Frontier Set, Bottle 2 – Barrell Craft Spirits Bourbon Cask Strength 15yr
Type: Bourbon
Age: 15 years
Location: Distilled in Tennessee, Kentucky & Indiana, bottled in Kentucky.
Alcohol: 52.45%
Other: Add a dash of water to release all the aromas and bring the whiskey to an ideal drinking strength. Bottle #10,622; only 12,000 bottles were produced.

Frontier Set, Bottle 3 - Nikka Coffey Grain
Type: Predominantly made from corn, with a splash of barley.
Age: No age statement.
Location: Distilled in Japan
Alcohol: 45%
Other: The name doesn’t refer to coffee (the morning beverage), but rather the Coffey Still in which the whiskey is distilled. The Coffey Still (aka column still) is the world’s first patented continuous still invented by Mr. Aeneas Coffey in 1830 (see the Whiskey Tasting Guide for more info). This whisky earned the 2018 Liquid Gold Award from Jim Murray.

Frontier Set, Bottle 4 – Glendronach Parliament 21yr
Type: Single malt, matured in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks from Spain. Non-chill filtered.
Age: 21 years
Location: Distilled in the Speyside region of Scotland.
Alcohol: 48%
Other: It is named ‘Parliament’ after the gathering of rooks (birds) that have been nesting in the trees that overlook the GlenDronach distillery for almost 200 years. Earned 2020 Best Highland Single Malt from the World Whiskies Awards.

Frontier Set, Bottle 5 – Crown Royal Extra Rare (XR)
Type: Rye
Age: No age statement.
Location: Distilled in Canada.
Alcohol: 40%
Other: The blend includes the last stocks of whiskies distilled at the famous LaSalle Distillery, which was closed in 1993. The whisky earned the Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and earned a perfect 96-100 point score from Wine Enthusiast.

Other: The barley comes from two locations--the feet of the Himalayas and Peated Barley from Scotland (thus "Fusion"). Earned 2014 Liquid Gold Award from Jim Murray.

Alcohol: 57.1%
Other: For those of you wondering if this Scotch has gone bad, the answer is no--it's "peated" (as is typical for most whiskies from Islay) and supposed to smell and taste that way. It earned World's Best Single Malt Whisky at the World Whisky Awards in 2010 and Best No Age Statement Scotch from Jim Murray. Ardgeb Corryvreckan is named after the whirlpool north of Islay and Jura.

Frontier Set, Bottle 10 – Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Cornerstone Rye
Type: Rye
Age: Aged a minimum of 9 years
Location: Distilled in Kentucky
Alcohol: 54.5%
Other: Batch number 850. Though technically a Rye, it also contains corn and malted barley in its mash bill as well.

Frontier Set, Bottle 11 – The Macallan 18yr Sherry Oak
Type: Single malt matured in sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain. (2018 release)
Age: 18 years
Location: Distilled in the Speyside region of Scotland

Other: Macallan is one of the most sought-after whiskies, with the 12 year being a standard "go-to” gift.

Other: Lot 40 was originally produced in the 1990s; however, despite its popularity, the line was discontinued. As demand grew for Rye whiskies, it was reintroduced in 2012.
